The Filipinas are in full force for the Spanish invitational.
From February 15-21, the Philippine Women's National Football Team will be in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain to face higher ranking squads from Europe. The 2023 Pinatar Cup will feature world no. 32 Wales, 25th ranked Scotland, and Iceland who's at 16th. This is a great opportunity for the PWNFT in the lead up to their historic appearance at the FIFA Women's World Cup this July.
That’s why a more complete lineup has been fielded for the Filipinas in the upcoming tournament. Defender Hali Long and goalkeeper Inna Palacios are back in the fold after missing the Australia camp last December wherein the Filipinas defeated Papua Guinea in a couple of friendlies. Midfielder Reinna Gabriel is also returning to train with her teammates for the first time since the US camp in September 2022.
Furthermore, PWNFT media officer Cedelf Tupas is ecstatic to see that one of the Philippine contingent’s star midfielders will join the trip to Spain, and is back in top form.
“Great to see Jackie Sawicki also fit and ready for the #Pinatarcup,” Tupas posted on his Facebook.
Here’s the complete roster of the Filipinas that are set to compete against four of Europe’s elite squads.
Familiar names such as Sarina Bolden (forward), Olivia McDaniel (goalkeeper), and Sara Eggesvik (midfielder) are also included in the 25-woman lineup.
On February 16, the Filipinas will be up against Wales. On the 18th they will face Scotland. And to conclude their Pinatar Cup campaign, the PWNFT will square off with Iceland.
