He served as interim coach in the recently-concluded PBA Governors’ Cup.
NorthPort Batang Pier officially named Bonnie Tan as full-time head coach.
Tan served as Batang Pier’s interim coach in the recently-concluded PBA Governors’ Cup, switching places with now team manager Pido Jarencio. Jarencio is also the concurrent coach of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.
The Batang Pier amassed a 3-8 tally in the season-ending conference.
This also effectively ended his term as head coach of the Letran Knights, who he led to three straight NCAA championships.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity that Letran has afforded me. I’m deeply appreciative of how the community has welcomed me since I came on board and being considered as an honorary Letranite will always be one of the biggest achievements I could ever receive,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Assistant coach Rensy Bajar will now call the shots for the Knights.
“Coach Rensy has been with us during the three-peat era and I’m confident that he can sustain the winning culture that we have built with the Knights,” he said.
Tan came in when Petron took over the basketball program of the Intramuros-based school and made an impact right away.
Under the three-time Coach of the Year, Letran posted a 44-13 win-loss record and three NCAA titles.
