Clue: He was a good basketball player.
In the NBA, retired players can always go to the National Basketball Retired Players Association.
In the PBA, retired players can always go to a much more prestigious organization with a wide-ranging reach, deeply philanthropic pursuits, and almost unparalleled gravitas: The PBA Motoclub.
Were you thinking of something else?
The ever-growing crew of former PBA stars is currently in Canada for a series of exhibition games in seven cities, continuing its basketball barnstorming of the globe. Of course, sightseeing is part of the itinerary, including Lake Louise in the picturesque town of Banff.
While Jayjay Helterbrand, Rico Maierhofer, Ryan Araña, and Jerwin Gaco were cavorting around, they suddenly spotted a very familiar face near the lake. Apparently, it was their fellow ex-PBA player Willie Miller! What were the odds? Such an awesome coincidence!
Just in case it isn't clear yet, it was just all part of a funny schtick. Miller is really part of the star-studded group, which also includes Marc Pingris, Cyrus Baguio, Niño Canaleta, Mac Cardona, JC Intal, and Billy Mamaril.
"Napadaan lang po tayo sa Banff. OK naman po. First time ko po nakapunta dito and napakasarap," said Miller as he grabbed the mic from Helterbrand and Maierhofer. "Tapos makikita mo pa 'tong lake, napaka-inviting. Sobra. Parang may gatas 'yung kulay. Parang puwede mo lagyan ng straw tapos higupin na lang."
If anything, it showed that Miller could be a legit vlogger. The former two-time PBA MVP has always been well-spoken and entertaining. He even briefly impersonated former four-time PBA MVP Alvin Patrimonio.
The PBA Motoclub continues to prove that there's life after the PBA. Perhaps an even better one. But which also begs the question: Ngumingiti na ba si Mamaril?
