Sacramento Kings player development coach Jimmy Alapag isn't the only one keeping busy these days.
His eldest son, Ian Maximus Alapag, recently decided to spend his free time doing something real neat for his old man, who as everyone knows is an absolute legend.
On Monday, the 11-year-old Alapag put together some old pictures of his father and made a short film, documenting the Mighty Mouse’s hoops journey, starting from his high school playing career all the way to his current gig with the Kings.
It was simple and straightforward, but it got the job done. After all, the guy whom the film was about was undoubtedly impressed.
“Love you, my son. This is awesome,” commented the former PBA MVP and Gilas Pilipinas icon.
The video started with a line that pretty much summed up Alapag's early playing carrer at Upland High School.
“He played high school as the shortest kid in the team but the best kid in the team,” the video said.
That description would still be accurate should one discuss Alapag's decorated pro career and his iconic run with the national team.
After showing his pop’s Hall of Fame credentials as a player, Ian Maximus proceeded to tackle his dad’s transition to coaching. The particular segment underscored a pivotal moment while the elder Alapag was still the coach of the San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).
“He moved to California because of COVID then one year later, he got hired as an assistant (coach) for the G League Kings,” Ian Maximus wrote.
Yep, the pandemic forced the ABL to cancel its season, which prompted Alapag and his family to move to the United States. There, Alapag’s dream of coaching in the NBA started to take form, starting with the NBA Summer League and the NBA G League. Now, he's an integral part of the Kings. Which is still surreal when you say it out loud.

As they say, everything happens for a reason, and Ian Maximus’ awesome video reminded us of that.
