Frankie Lim and Robert Bolick both said it was team effort that keyed NLEX’s win against Meralco, though.
In a game where he almost single-handedly carried NLEX to a 99-96 win over Meralco on Wednesday, March 6, Robert Bolick deflected credit to his teammates.
This came after Bolick dropped 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, which saw the Road Warriors erase a 75-85 deficit to claim their second win in three games.
Still, the Road Warriors star shunned credit for the victory.
“Talagang 'yung bench namin nag-step up. Ibang klase binigay nila sa depensa. Ready lahat maglaro. Team effort talaga,” he said after the match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
He wasn’t exactly wrong.
While Bolick was relatively gun-shy in the first three quarters, his teammates picked up the slack.
Rookies Enoch Valdez and Jhan Nermal came up with 12 and 11 points, while Tony Semerad and Robbie Herndon finished with nine points apiece. Dave Marcelo, Mika Miranda, and Dom Fajardo combined for 20 markers.
Coach Frankie Lim agreed with his prized ward’s shrewd assessment.
“I want to look at it as a team effort eh. Lahat may kani-kanyang ambag,” said Lim.
But he simply cannot ignore Bolick’s heroics especially late in the fourth frame, where conjured some Robert Bolick magic on the offensive end to flip the script on the Bolts.
“Buti na lang may Bolick kami. Isipin mo kung wala ito dito,” he said. “Syempre special ito. May pula sa noo parang sipao.”
