In one weekend, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel get fresh blood after trading Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle to the Terrafirma Dyip for Stephen Holt and Isaac Go.

Ginebra would also get Terrafirma's no. 3 pick on Sunday's PBA Season 49 Draft, while the Dyip will take the 10th selection.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone explained the decision was made due to a combination of factors.

"On our part, we felt we needed to get younger," Cone stated in a message to News5's Ian Suyu.

Forward-center Standhardinger just turned 35, while guard Pringle is 37.

Holt, the top draft pick of the 2023 draft and a guard for Terrafirma, is 32. Forward-center Go is 28.

Cone also explained that Standhardinger, who will now be playing for his fourth PBA team, wanted to try something new.

"He had stated to us a conference ago that he would prefer to play in a different system and under a different coach. No doubt, he loved his teammates and playing for the Ginebra fans, but he felt it was better to move on," the tactician shared.

"Since that time, we have contemplated various deals for him before finally settling on acquiring Stephen Holt and Isaac Go and the chance to move up in what we see is a strong draft."

The PBA's winningest coach earlier said he was eyeing a big man and a point guard in the PBA Season 49 Draft, which would be held on Sunday. However, he had rued about his options since Ginebra was 10th in the pecking order at the time.

The trade changes things since it moved Ginebra with the third pick.

Nevertheless, he made sure to acknowledge Standhardinger and Pringle's contribution to the team.

"It was tough to move on from Christian and Stanley who were absolute studs for us over the past few years. Stanley was absolutely dominating when we first acquired him and Christian was the best player in the league next to June Mar over the past couple of years," Cone said. "We will miss Christian and Stanley and always appreciate the championships we won together. We wish them the best as they continue their careers."

Standhardinger expressed his gratitude to the squad where he won two PBA titles with and even became 2022-23 Commissioner's Cup Finals MVP.

"I acknowledge Coach Tim's decision and respect it. It's part of the game, and I wish him and the team all the best moving forward," he wrote on social media.
