Aldin Ayo’s reunion with former collegiate star player and FiberXers top pick Justine Baltazar at the pro was over even before it started.
Aldin Ayo is out of Converge.
The FiberXers announced they are parting ways with Ayo and lead assistant McJour Luib in a stunning move announced on social media, Thursday, August 1.
Just weeks before the season-opening PBA Governors’ Cup, Converge decided to make the blockbuster move, with Franco Atienza taking over the spot in an acting capacity.
“It was a mutually agreed decision for both parties to part ways,” team manager Jacob Lao said in a statement. “We are thankful for their dedicated service to the team for almost two years.”
In his Converge tenure, Ayo steered the FiberXers to the quarterfinals twice and compiled a 17-28 record in the four conferences he was at the helm.
Converge won just three of the 22 elimination round games last season, finishing dead last in both the Commissioner’s Cup and the Philippine Cup.
But this resulted in the team securing the top overall pick in this year’s PBA Draft and selected big-man Justine Baltazar.
