NorthPort picked Terrafirma apart from the get-go and went on to hammer out a 133-107 bounce-back win in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup on Sunday, Sept. 8.

It was Arvin Tolentino who showed the way anew for the Batang Pier after registering a triple-double with 23 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field he topped with 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Venky Jois and William Navarro were also back in action after being sidelined in NorthPort's latest loss to Magnolia due to sprained ankles, this time helping the squad improve to a 3-3 record in Group A.

Eager to arrest a two-game slump, the Batang Pier came out with a swinging a 30-8 rally to open the action at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Save for some hiccup in the final quarter, NorthPort was practically in control from there.

Misery continued to hound the Dyip, who failed to come up with a breakthrough win in six games.

Terrafirma tried to show resistance in the fourth period after Standhardinger sparked an 8-to-nothing run to trim the deficit to 13, 96-109, with 7:04 left to play.

But the Batang Pier completely shut the door on Terrafirma after responding with a mini 6-1 run to pad the lead back to 20, 117-97.

Jois led all scorers with 26 points he spiked with 15 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals while Navarro added 18 points.

Cade Flores added 15 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

“Hiningi lang namin for today’s game is the energy of the player na kailangan, from the start, maipakita namin ang willingness to defend, especially Terrafirma’s is a dangerous team,” said NorthPort assistant coach Rensy Bajar.

Christian Standhardinger paced the Dyip with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
