Marcio Lassiter’s three-point career milestone could not have come at a better time.

On the night Lassiter dislodged Jimmy Alapag to become the league’s new three-point king, San Miguel put on a clinic and waylaid Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel, 131-82, in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup on Sunday, Sep. 15.

Lassiter was at the forefront of the Beermen’s assault from the get-go, dropping 12 points on 4-for-5 treys in a 37-13 opening salvo where he eclipsed the previous 1250 all-time three points made tally set by league great Jimmy Alapag.

At the 7:10 mark of the same period, Lassiter hit his third triple of the game to chalk up 1251 and now claim the record then held for eight years by the many-time PBA champion and one-time MVP Alapag.

Everything simply went right for the Beermen, who were never in any danger of relinquishing the lead for the rest of the match.

The Beermen thus collected their fourth straight win for a 6-2 mark for the solo lead in Group B that also features Rain or Shine, NLEX, Blackwater and Phoenix.

Ginebra, which earlier occupied the summit with its foe, slipped to 5-3.

June Mar Fajardo was also superb for San Miguel as he registered a double-double of 24 points and 17 rebounds, while CJ Perez supported him with 22 points as the Beermen hacked out the 49-point victory for their biggest winning margin in franchise history.

“We just wanted to help Marcio get this one off his back. I’m very happy for him. I’m very blessed to be his coach,” said San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent.

On the wrong end of two historic feats were the Gin Kings and coach Tim Cone, who absorbed their biggest losing margin ever.

RJ Abarrientos paced Ginebra with 19 points, while Justin Brownlee had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

But there was nothing Abarrientos, Brownlee and the rest of the Gin Kings could do to stop the bleeding from start to finish.
