It appears a PBA comeback is imminent for Javi Gomez de Liaño.

Still awaiting formal offers from Korean Basketball League teams after a stint with the Anyang Jun Kwang Kang Red Boosters, Gomez de Liaño bared that a “big team” in the PBA has already expressed interest to acquire him.

“Formally since the season just ended wala pa [offer from KBL] eh. But we’re about to start now actually, free agency signing and all that,” said Gomez de Liaño, who watched the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup game between Ginebra and San Miguel Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“At the same time talking to some coaches here in the league, I'm surprised like one of the big teams actually want to get me,” he added.

Javi refused to divulge the name of the said PBA squad, though, saying the coach only asked for his number.

“But I can’t say it now. Di pa naman sure and all that. That made me interested [so] I'm just waiting for that. If we work things out then maybe it will make me stay,” Gomez de Liaño said.

Pressed to give more clues about the said team, the 26-year-old cager made a long pause before alluding to either Magnolia or Ginebra, which drafted him eighth overall in 2022.

“One of the big teams. Big market teams. Kasama sa [Manila] Clasico, so yun. Pero of course just to talk lang naman eh. Maybe with my agent Marvin [Espiritu], we’ll see things out,” he said.

Gomez de Liaño stressed that there’s no formal offer from any team in the PBA or in the KBL, for now.

Whether or not the said PBA team will make an official offer, it still has to make a deal with Terrafirma, which holds his rights in the PBA.

“Nasa Terrafirma pa eh. Di pa ako kinakausap ng Terrafirma so I'm not sure we're heading in the same direction,” he said.
