The DOTA buddies will reunite at the All-Star Game.
Barangay Ginebra Gin King Japeth Aguilar probably didn’t expect June Mar Fajardo to land on Team Japeth in the PBA All-Star Game.
After all, Scottie Thompson had the first pick in the All-Star Draft on Monday. But rather than choose the six-time MVP, the reigning MVP used it to tab teammate Christian Standhardinger.
Aguilar is not complaining.
From Gilas to DOTA, the two have been close friends. That's why the 6-foot-9 beanpole is pleased to have the six-time PBA MVP on his team when the spectacle in Passi City, Iloilo unfurls.
“Iba si June Mar outside basketball. Fun kasama. I'm looking forward sa All-Star game namin,” he said.
Team Japeth coach Tim Cone shared the same sentiment.
Fajardo has been a nightmare for coaches in the PBA. But at least for one game, Cone is not going to spend the night trying to devise a plan against the 6-foot-10 behemoth.
“Just so happy I don't have to find a game plan to stop June Mar. That's coach Yeng’s [Guiao] problem now,” he said with a smile.
Now, for a change, Cone will have to cook up something to unleash The Kraken rather than contain him. That's certainly quite the luxury.
