The Cargo Movers are looking loaded for the PVL Invitational Conference.
While most of the talk about the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers has been about their acquisition of Jolina Dela Cruz and Mars Alba of the De La Salle Lady Spikers, the yellow-clad squad also secured during this offseason the services of UAAP Season 85 Best Opposite Spiker Jov Fernandez.
Despite having three more playing years left in the UAAP, the FEU tamaraw decided that it was time for her to move to the professional league.
“Feel ko kaya ko mas bigger responsibility sa akin because ito 'yung bagong challenge sa akin na mag-step up pa lalo,” Fernandez said on a recent episode of One Sports' The Game.
But what exactly made Jov decide to sign with F2 Logistics? Fans could thank the connection between coaches Tina Salak and Regine Diego.
Salak, the 1995 UAAP MVP, is Fernandez's coach in FEU. Diego, meanwhile, mentored the Cargo Movers to its first podium finish in the PVL in the recent All-Filipino Confererence.
“Unang-una, kinausap ako ni coach Tina na, 'Jov, try mo muna mag-club.' And siya pa nagsabi na ini-invite ako ng F2,” said Fernandez.
“Mag-close sila ni coach Tina and coach Reg, and ayun dun ako na-invite,” the opposite spiker added.
Fernandez played a significant role in FEU's impressive performance during Season 85. Despite finishing just outside of the Final Four with a 6-8 win-loss card, the Tamaraws showed great improvement compared to Season 84, when they struggled en route to a 1-13 record.
Under the Cargo Movers, Fernandez will now learn the ropes from the likes of Kim Kianna Dy and Elaine Kasilag.
