The Animo bloodline is strong with the Cargo Movers' setters.
There are no training wheels for the rookies of the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers. Coach Regine Diego immediately made Mars Alba and Jolina Dela Cruz starters in the PVL Invitational Conference opening match against the Farm Fresh Foxies.
The former DLSU Lady Spikers, along with FEU Tamaraws recruit Jov Fernandez, rewarded the opportunity with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 sweep on Tuesday.
"Hindi ako nagulat na that's what's going to happen today," Diego told the media after the match.
"I know these girls, sila nagdadala sa team nila sa UAAP. Naabot naman nila yung expectations. I know they can still learn more."
Alba was called as a starter and made five points, with two coming from service aces. She also made 14 excellent sets.
"Nakaka-overwhelm kasi given na first game, first win din," she admitted after the match.
Asked about the chance to play as the main setter instead of veteran Kim Fajardo, Alba said she was grateful for the opportunity to learn.
"Nakakataas ng confidence sa paglalaro ko, given na mga veteran na yung naglalaro. Naga-guide kami ng mga ate," she said.
"Kilala ko na siya for the longest time. I fully trusted her," Diego added. "I know the team is going to be there to support her."
The coach though expects more from her squad, noting their 22 unforced errors.
"We need to have better connections, lalo bago si Marione sa loob ng court," she said. "
F2 Logistics will take on fellow 1-0 team Cignal HD Spikers in Pool B on Saturday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m.
