Mama P likes to jump a lot, even on her teammates.
Mylene Paat is fond of glomping on her teammates in the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, especially Cza Carandang.
It's not just for fun, though. Okay, maybe half of it.
"Ginagawa ko 'yun kasi 'yun 'yung way ko kung paano palabasin 'yung laro niya," Paat told One Sports on Thursday.
"Every time since last, last conference, 'pag ginagawa ko 'yun sa kanya, gumaganda 'yung laro niya. Kaya kailangan lang din ng nangungulit sa kanya," she added.
It seems to be working as Carandang scored 7 points in Chery Tiggo's straight-sets victory over the Gerflor Defenders on Thursday. In the Crossovers' five-set victory against the Akari Chargers the other day, Cza had 6 points.
"Mas nagiging jolly din ako 'pag ginaganun ko siya," Paat said.
The Chery Tiggo captain came alive against Gerflor, scoring 15 points off 10 attacks, 4 blocks, and 1 ace.
But Mama P admitted she would need to do more to lead her squad.
"I realized that we needed to develop strong chemistry on the court, especially with the younger players," the 29-year-old lefty spiker told reporters after the match versus Gerflor.
It was something coach Aaron Velez emphasized during training, as the Crossovers are bannering five rookies in this year's PVL Invitational Conference.
"We are aware of the weight she carries, but I've told her not to stop because every time we pause, communication breaks down, and the rookies tend to rely heavily on Mylene's guidance," Velez said.
"I believe Mylene needs to unleash her confidence and never doubt her capabilities," he added.
Carrying a 2-1 record, the Crossovers will be looking to secure a top two spot in Pool A when they go up against the PLDT High Speed Hitters on Tuesday, July 18.
