Cheng got a medal for the Flying Titans' runner-up finish.
Des Cheng could only watch as the Choco Mucho Flying Titans barged into the finals and finished second to the Creamline Cool Smashers in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference—but not after putting up a hell of a fight in the deciding Game 2.
That’s because the steady spiker tore her left ACL in only the Flying Titans’ third game in the conference against the Cignal HD Spikers—forcing her to miss the rest of the tournament and possibly the next conference, too.
Cheng’s latest injury was just one of her many “downs” in her time with the Flying Titans, which also saw her stretchered off the court in one game back in the Invitational Conference due to heat exhaustion. It was the same conference, incidentally, where she made a startling admission about feeling unvalued in Choco Mucho—proof yet again of her tenuous time with the franchise.
And, in an Instagram Story on Sunday night, the 27-year-old volleybelle summed up her two years as a Flying Titan in just one sentence: “2 years full of ups and downs, growth and learning.”
Take a look:
Indeed, it hasn’t been all downs for the star spiker at Choco Mucho as she has managed to make a name for herself as one of the league’s brightest young stars playing for the Flying Titans. She also has a glittering silver medal to add to her volleyball hardware, having still been a part of the team’s historic bridesmaid finish.
Now, it is up to Cheng to use all that growth and learning as she continues to recover from her injury so she can get back to playing once more for the Flying Titans—and maybe become the missing piece to their championship puzzle.
