The Petro Gazz Angels are on a winning spree and Jonah Sabete credits their total team effort as the key to their recent success in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Petro Gazz is more than just a Brooke Van Sickle show.
The Angels heavily relied on Van Sickle's offensive brilliance in suppressing Farm Fresh, 25-21, 27-25, 25-19, in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Thursday.
But Jonah Sabete, who provided ample support to the Filipina-American hitter in their latest win, underscored that teamwork, as head coach Koji Tsuzurabara stressed, is the main ingredient behind Petro Gazz's recent success.
"(Coach) always tells us, not individual, teamwork is the number one recipe ng team namin," Sabete said.
"Hindi siya pabor doon sa skills lang ng [iisang] tao. Teamwork talaga."
Van Sickle scattered a game-high 26 points on 20 attacks, three blocks and three aces while also producing on the defensive end with nine digs.
Sabete backed her up with nine attacks and two denials for 11 points she topped with eight digs.
Despite Van Sickle's undeniable impact on the team, Petro Gazz emphasizes cooperation and cohesion.
Every Angel embraces her role, working in unison to support the former US NCAA standout.
Whether it is in setting up plays, providing floor coverage or mounting a stifling defense above the net, each Petro Gazz cog has served an integral role in the squad's three-game surge that put it at third with its 4-1 tally.
"You know Petro Gazz naman. Talagang trabaho as professionals. This is work, business. So 'yun lang talaga," Sabete said.
"Doon lang kami naka-focus sa team. Kung ano 'yung purpose namin at kung bakit kami nandito sa team."
The Angels aim to sustain their run when they tangle with Chery Tiggo on March 21, Thursday.
