The Creamline Cool Smashers continue to be the bane of the Choco Mucho Flying Titans after pulling off a straight-set 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 shocker in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference inside the jam-packed Smart Araneta Coliseum Thursday.
In a rematch of the 2023 Second All-Filipino Conference Finals, the defending champions reasserted their dominance over the Flying Titans in front of 17,396 spectators.
The Cool Smashers earned a massive boost for their title-retention bid, sharing an identical 8-2 record and 24 points with the Flying Titans. However, Choco Mucho still gets the edge by virtue of set ratio.
The sweep marked the 12th time Creamline defeated Choco Mucho, since the latter entered the league in 2019.
Creamline brewed the perfect blend of offense and defense to dictate the tempo all throughout the match.
Bea de Leon emerged as the Player of the Game, delivering nine points on six attacks and three blocks versus her former squad.
Tots Carlos spearheaded Creamline’s offensive thrust with 21 markers built on 18 spikes and three rejections.
Alyssa Valdez strutted her two-way form, collecting 11 points and 10 digs, while Jeannette Panaga anchored above the net with five blocks on her way to 11 markers.
Jema Galanza supplemented seven points for the Cool Smashers, who strung 17 excellent sets and two markers from Kyle Negrito.
Ex-Choco Mucho stalwart Denden Lazaro-Revilla manned the floor with 17 receptions.
Creamline dominated Choco Mucho in the spiking and blocking departments, mounting a 45-32 attack differential and a 14-5 block disparity.
Sisi Rondina was the lone Flying Titan in twin-digit territory with 17 points, to go along with eight receptions.
Isa Molde managed nine points and seven digs, while Royse Tubino had seven markers as she continued to fill the void left by Kat Tolentino, who was sidelined due to an auditory condition.
Choco Mucho captain Maddie Madayag finished with four points, while Deanna Wong struggled with five excellent sets.
Creamline continues its pursuit of a semis berth when it takes on fellow contender PLDT on April 25, Thursday.
Choco Mucho, on the other hand, also seeks to punch its ticket to the next round when it faces also-ran Farm Fresh on April 23, Tuesday.
Both matches will be held at the PhilSports Arena.
