There were questions on who the Galeries Tower Highrisers would select with the third overall pick in the PVL Rookie Draft. But ultimately, the Lerma Giron-led squad selected Julia Coronel.

The De La Salle University and Alas Pilipinas setter admitted to being uncertain about her draft placement.

That’s why Coronel was ecstatic hearing her name called by the Highrisers as the third pick.

“Sobrang thankful kasi coming into this draft, hindi ko talaga alam kung sino ang pipili sa akin. And now that I know, I’m just really happy with the team I am in and, like I said, willing to contribute to the success of the team,” Coronel told reporters.

Coronel's DLSU teammates Thea Gagate and Leila Cruz were selected as the first and second picks in the Rookie Draft.

As Coronel followed suit, the 5-foot-10 setter wished nothing but the best for her now-former teammates as they spread their wings to different professional clubs.

“It’s just a great feeling to see my teammates na napili right away for this draft and I’m really hoping that they get to shine in the teams that we are all in,” said Coronel.

“Alam naman natin sistema ni coach Ramil [de Jesus] for how many years. Proven and tested, grabe na rin sistema ni coach, so it’s a great feeling to see my teammates [get drafted],” she added.

After finishing in 10th place with a 3-8 record, the Galeries will look to climb higher in the standings with the addition of Coronel and other draftees in Jewel Encarnacion, Dodee Batindaan, and Danivah Aying.
