New Chargers Ivy Lacsina, Oluoma Okaro, Dani Ravena, and coach Taka Minowa provided the spark for Akari against the Capital1 Solar Spikers.
American import Oluoma Okaro wasted no time making her mark in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) as she steered the Akari Chargers to a four-set win (25-18, 27-25, 22-25, 25-14) over the Capital1 Solar Spikers in their opening match of the Reinforced Conference on Thursday, July 18th at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Okaro, playing in her first game for the Chargers, emerged as the Player of the Game after a well-rounded performance that included 16 points built on 14 attacks, a service ace, and a block.
The Chargers, under coach Takahiro Minowa, overcame a slow third set where they trailed, 4-8. They clawed their way back to tie the set at 11-all. But Capital1's import, Marina Tushova, scored back-to-back points to extend the match.
Akari regrouped in the fourth set and dominated behind Okara's offense. They will look to continue their winning ways as they face the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in their next Pool B match on July 23rd.
