Less than week of training with the Capital1 Solar Spikers, Roma Mae Doromal proved that she will be key asset for the team moving forward.
Despite only having less than a week of training since getting drafted, Roma Mae Doromal made her presence felt right away for the Capital1 Solar Spikers in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.
Doromal had an impressive debut after she finished with 13 excellent digs in Capital1’s four-set defeat to the Akari Chargers on Thursday, July 18 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Despite the loss, Doromal expressed optimism about the Roger Gorayeb-led Solar Spikers’ progress and highlighted the close nature of the match.
"Nakakapanghinayang talaga 'yung game. Kita niyo naman na very close 'yung labanan. But at the same time, happy din naman kasi at least nakita namin [na] meron talagang progress and mas maganda 'yung na-perform namin sa expected," Doromal told reporters after the match.
"Siyempre, meron pa rin room for improvement and 'yun 'yung pinaka-fino-focusan namin ngayon, 'yung may nakita kaming kailanga pa i-improve and pagtrabahuan as a group."
Doromal, who was the 14th pick in the inaugural PVL Rookie Draft, acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to a new team, noting that they had only been training together for a few weeks.
"Considering din na ilang months or weeks palang kami nata-training with the team, so sobrang nag-adjust pa rin kami,” said Doromal.
“Nakikita namin na kahit papaano nandun 'yung tinuturo ni coach samin and hopefully, sinabi niya na kailangan pa kaming pagtuunan ng pansin in training kasi sobrang kulang pa. Very open naman kami dun, open talaga kami matuto and ma-adapt 'yung system ni coach Roger."
