In the battle of undefeated teams, the Akari Chargers came out on top against the Cignal HD Spikers in the PVL Reinforced Conference.
In a thrilling showdown of undefeated teams on Tuesday, the Akari Chargers emerged victorious over the Cignal HD Spikers in four sets, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, solidifying their position as the top team in Pool B of the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.
The match started with a defensive display from Cignal, as Chin Basas and Riri Meneses hosted a blocking party that set the tone for the opening set. The HD Spikers claimed the first frame, 25-22, with a spike from MJ Perez.
However, Akari responded in the second set with Grethcel Soltones and Oly Okaro taking control. Okaro, delivering six points and Soltones adding four, helped the Chargers tie the match with a convincing 25-17 win.
Maintaining their momentum, the Chargers dominated the third set. Ivy Lacsina contributed five crucial points, leading Akari to a 25-19 victory and a 2-1 set lead.
The fourth set saw both teams tied at 4-4 before Akari unleashed a 10-0 run, extending their lead to 16-7. Despite a valiant effort from Cignal to catch up, the Chargers held on to win the set 25-22, and the match 3-1.
Oly Okaro delivered a standout performance for Akari, amassing 24 points from 22 attacks, a block, and an ace, helping her team secure the top spot in Pool B.
