Brooke Van Sickle is back where she left off for Petro Gazz in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Van Sickle produced MVP numbers in the Angels’ four-set win over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, finishing with 34 points on 28 attacks, two blocks, and four service aces.

The reigning All-Filipino MVP left it all on the taraflex right on opening day, whether on offense or defense, producing 14 excellent digs as well in the match for Petro Gazz.

“Don’t get me wrong I’m really tired right now, I’m exhausted,” Van Sickle quipped during the post-game press conference.

“But again, we're all stepping on the court we’re just like ‘Hey, let’s have that grit.' I feel like even when we’re tired it’s just like keep going, just keep point by point and be mentally tough about it,” she added.

Despite the big numbers, Van Sickle remains solely focused on helping her team to get the victory.

“Basically how I went into the game is just I want to be there for my teammates and have a good time and have high energy for everyone,” said Van Sickle. “I don’t even think about stats during games. I just try to get my 100 percent every time.”

Van Sickle and the rest of the Angels’ are out for payback in the new PVL season after falling short of everyone’s expectations during the Reinforced Conference, losing in the quarterfinals as one of the lower seeds.

“Obviously, last conference wasn’t our best performance. It’s not fun losing,” said Van Sickle. “I feel like as team we were able to learn a lot of lessons and when you’re in that position you really have to reflect and think about what happened, what needs to be done and everything.”

“We had multiple talks as a team just trying to figure it out and get that groove back. I feel like we were able to do that,” she added.

It wasn’t just Van Sickle that had a stellar outing for Petro Gazz against the Flying Titans though, with Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Jonah Sabete contributing 18 markers apiece in the win.

Sisi Rondina led Choco Mucho with 18 points, while Kat Tolentino and Cherry Nunag added 12 each.

The Angels will look to continue their winning ways next Saturday against the defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
