Down goes the champs.

The UST Golden Spikers pulled off an impressive straight-sets romp against the defending champion NU Bulldogs: 25-23, 26-24, 25-23, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Sunday.

In a rematch of the Season 85 Finals, the Golden Spikers showed their composure throughout the match to end NU's 34-game winning streak, which was sealed by a service ace by Gboy De Vega.

The last time NU lost was against the FEU Tamaraws back in February 16, 2019 in Season 81. The last time UST beat NU was in round 2 of Season 77.

Reigning Rookie-MVP Josh Ybañez powered UST in the win with 13 points, while Jay Rack De La Noche and Edlyn Colinares added 9 markers apiece.

Nico Almedras, meanwhile, had a game-high 15 points for NU in the loss.

In the first game, the FEU Tamaraws made quick work of the UP Fighting Maroons en route to their first win in the Season 86: 25-23, 25-17, 25-15.

UP put up a fight early on led by Louis Gamban, who kept the game close against FEU in the first set.

However, Dryx Saavedra went on a scoring barrage for the Tamaraws as they would go on to dominate the Fighting Maroons for a straight-sets victory.

Saavedra led the way for FEU with 16 points, while Martin Bugaoan and Jelord Talisayan added 11 markers apiece.
