The DLSU Lady Spikers beat Ateneo for the 13th-straight time in a winning streak that started in 2017 in UAAP Season 79.
The DLSU Lady Spikers bounced back from their tough loss last Sunday with a dominant straight-sets victory over the rival Ateneo Blue Eagles, 25-12, 25-22, 25-19, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Saturday, March 2.
Thea Gagate and Shevana Laput led the charge for La Salle with 15 and 13 points respectively, as the Taft-based squad grabbed their third win in Season 86. Reiging Rookie-MVP Angel Canino added 10 points for the champion Lady Spikers.
Lyann De Guzman was the lone double-digit scorer for Ateneo with 15 markers.
In front of 6,477 fans inside the MOA Arena, the Lady Spikers started the game on a strong note as the defending champions limited the Blue Eagles to just 12 points.
But after being overpowered in the first set, Ateneo managed to keep in step with La Salle in the second set, tying the game at 22-all. However, an error by the Blue Eagles and back-to-back attack points by Laput and Canino secured the frame for the Lady Spikers.
With momentum on their side, DLSU continued to pounce on Ateneo to seal the third set and the victory.
This is La Salle's 13th-straight victory over their arch rivals, the first of which came in Game 1 of the UAAP Season 79 Finals last May 2, 2017.
The Lady Spikers sit at second in the standings with a 3-1 record, while the Blue Eagles slide to a 1-3 win-loss record.
