Jerry Yee’s temporary suspension from coaching the University of the East in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament came as a shock to many fans.

Until now, many are still wondering what could have led the league to hand out a strong punishment against the veteran tactician.

However, both Yee and the UAAP released statements on Sunday morning, each referring to past events, including potential factors dating back to 2022, which could have contributed to the three-month suspension of the UE coach.

Here’s a timeline of all the events related to Yee’s suspension:

July 1, 2022: Adamson signs College of St. Benilde coach Yee

In his statement, Yee disclosed how the Adamson Lady Falcons approached to hire him as head coach while he was already at the helm for College of St. Benilde in the NCAA.

Yee has been CSB’s head tactician since July 22, 2018.

However, during his tenure as the Adamson coach, Yee mentioned that he seized an opportunity when a PVL team, initially in the process of formation with a core of Benildean players, approached him.

The team turned out to be the Farm Fresh Foxies, where Yee now also concurrently serves as head coach.

March 2023: Adamson, Akari met with Yee to express displeasure on Farm Fresh head coaching offer

While serving as the Lady Falcons coach, Yee said that Adamson University and its primary sponsor Akari convened with him, expressing dissatisfaction and indicating challenges in continuing their arrangements.

Yee, however, mentioned his willingness to retain his coaching position for another season without extra compensation from the sponsor.

However, Adamson and Akari clarified that such an arrangement would not be feasible.

June 2023: Adamson, Akari meet again with Yee on ‘mutual termination of agreement’

In the first week of June last year, Adamson University and its sponsor, Akari, reconvened with Yee to discuss the possibility of mutually terminating their agreement.

Shortly thereafter, on June 6, Yee secured a new coaching opportunity with Farm Fresh.

However, the very next day, on June 7, Adamson terminated Yee's contract and issued a statement of release.

Undeterred, on June 21, Yee accepted an offer from the University of the East, embarking on a new chapter in his coaching career.

February 29, 2024: UAAP boards deliberate on a complaint filed against Yee

Less than two weeks into UAAP Season 86, an unnamed member school of the UAAP filed a complaint against Yee.

According to the league's statement, the complaint was based on allegations of "conduct violative to the purposes of the UAAP - a platform for Member Universities to foster camaraderie and fair play."

By February 29, after thorough deliberation by the UAAP Board of Managing Directors, the Board of Trustees concluded that they agreed with the assessment that Yee "engaged in acts inconsistent with the league's objectives."

March 1, 2024: UAAP suspends Yee for three months

On March 1, UE received the ruling from the UAAP, conveyed through UE President Dr. Zosimo Battad and UAAP Season 86 President Rodrigo Roque.

Following this, on March 3, the UAAP officially announced the suspension of Yee.

Subsequently, on March 4, UE announced its intention to file an appeal regarding the UAAP ruling.
