University of Santo Tomas remains unbeaten in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament after making quick work of the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, March 9.

Super rookie Angge Poyos led the way for the Golden Tigresses with a career-high of 26 points built on 21 attacks, two blocks, and three service aces.

Poyos could not be stopped early on in the match, scoring 11 points in the first set alone which included back-to-back aces.

But it wasn't just a pure Poyos show as the Golden Tigresses had the Blue Eagles' number all game long, continuing their dominance in the second set all the way to the finish.

In the third set, UST pounced on Ateneo after starting the frame with a 6-0 run led by Regina Jurado, who finished with 12 points and 10 excellent digs.

Ateneo tried to mount a small comeback after back-to-back points by Lyann De Guzman and a service ace by KC Cortez to trim the lead to 11-13.

The Blue Eagles were also able to tie the score at 15-all after a service ace by Zey Pacia.

But as starters Jurado and Jonna Perdido returned, the Golden Tigresses were once again able to build a four-point cushion at 21-17.

Poyos sealed the win for UST after a combination play, giving the team its fifth win in Season 86.

UST now sits with a 5-0 record so far, while Ateneo drops to 1-4 in the standings, tied with the University of the East.
