The UAAP confirms that NU star hitter Alyssa Solomon is eligible to play for the rest of UAAP Season 87 despite initially applying for the KOVO Asian Quota Draft.
The UAAP said that NU’s Alyssa Solomon is still eligible to compete in Season 87 despite her initial move to apply for the 2025 Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Asian Quota Draft, the league said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the Board of Managing Directors, Solomon’s withdrawal from the draft is what allowed her to maintain her eligibility and she will also not be given any sanctions.
“The University Athletic Association of the Philippines Board of Managing Directors, after due deliberation, confirmed that National University student-athlete Alyssa Solomon remains eligible to compete in the UAAP,” the statement read.
“While the BMD noted that Solomon did apply and was included in the draft list of the 2025 Korean Volleyball Federation Asian Quota Draft, her subsequent action in immediately withdrawing her application allowed her to continue competing in the ongoing UAAP Season.”
The reigning UAAP Finals MVP and Best Opposite Spiker was initially approached by an agent to apply for the KOVO Draft, along with other Filipinos like Majoy Baron, Maddie Madayag, and Mars Alba.
However, it was eventually deemed that Solomon would be ineligible to play in the UAAP should she make it to the final list of the draft.
This is because being in the final list of a draft would make an athlete, by principle, a professional.
If Solomon had made it to the list, she would not be able to play for NU anymore, while also opening up the possibility of the Lady Bulldogs having to withdraw their previous wins during games where Solomon suited up for this season.
Upon learning of this UAAP rule, Solomon swiftly withdrew her application before the Lady Bulldogs ended their first round campaign against UST last weekend.
Solomon had previously confirmed that this would be her final playing year with NU despite having one more year left of eligibility.
