The NU Lady Bulldogs repulsed a determined DLSU Lady Spikers to keep their undefeated run going in UAAP Season 87, emerging victorious in four sets, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, in their second round encounter at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.

Though less convincing than their first-round beatdown of the Taft-based squad, NU still had La Salle’s number as the defending champions ended La Salle’s four-game win streak, extending their own perfect run to eight games.

With the game tied at 1-1, NU seized control with a pivotal set 3 win when the Lady Bulldogs pulled away midway through the set. Despite La Salle hanging around late, Vange Alinsug converted on some timely attacks, including a block buster where they took a five-point advantage, 23-18.

NU sealed the set 3 victory and the 2-1 advantage off of an Erin Pangilinan block on Shevana Laput, 25-20.

Then in set 4, NU took advantage of an error-prone La Salle — including three straight late in the match which put the Lady Bulldogs ahead by six, 23-17.

By then, the Lady Bulldogs wouldn’t allow any other result as they finished off their foes with an Arah Panique down-the-line hit.

Bella Belen paced NU against La Salle with 23 points, seven excellent digs, and 17 excellent receptions.

Alyssa Solomon added 19 markers, while Alinsug had 11 points, 13 excellent digs, and five excellent receptions.

Shevana Laput was the top scorer for La Salle with 19 markers as the Lady Spikers dropped to 5-3, the same record as FEU and UST.

Angel Canino played an all-around game of 15 points and 21 excellent receptions.
