Sol Canino gives an update on the status of her daughter Angel after an inadvertent clash with teammate Shevana Laput in La Salle's 5-set win over UST in UAAP Season 87.
Angel Canino’s mother, Sol Canino, went on social media to alleviate fears surrounding her daughter’s status after she was rushed to the hospital shortly after La Salle’s five-set win over the UST Golden Tigresses on Saturday.
Canino, who ended up Player of the Game with 27 points, 13 excellent receptions, and 13 excellent digs, broke down on the floor immediately after match point. She was quickly ushered out by medical personnel outside of the playing area and into a waiting ambulance.
The third year hitter had complained of dizziness in set 4 after she inadvertently collided with teammate Shevana Laput early on in the canto. Though she shook it off initially, Canino was subbed out late in the set to be attended to.
“Hi everyone. Angel is ok,” wrote Canino’s mother on X, formerly Twitter.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all your well wishes and heartfelt prayers. God bless us all po!” she added.
Canino was still fielded to play in set 5, where she also converted on a point during a crucial rally where La Salle seized an 11-10 lead over UST.
Apart from dizziness, Canino also seemed to be in her emotions from the get-go, having visceral reactions after some La Salle points as well during the match.
The high-pressure affair, along with Canino’s accidental clash with Laput, triggered the immediate action from their medical staff.
La Salle will hope to have Canino back in action when they look to build on this character-building win over UST when they face the Ateneo Blue Eagles in a rivalry match on Wednesday, April 2, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
