Ace rookie Shaina Nitura unleashes another 30-point outing in UAAP Season 87 as Adamson downs defending champion NU.
The Adamson Lady Falcons bagged their biggest win of the year as they shocked the NU Lady Bulldogs, 25-23, 15-25, 28-26, 25-22, in their second round encounter in UAAP Season 87 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
Adamson, on the brink of elimination from Final Four contention, kept themselves alive and kicking thanks to another 30-point outing from ace rookie Shaina Nitura as she dropped 32 points on the defending champions.
The Lady Falcons rode the momentum of a pivotal extended third set win against the Lady Bulldogs, who were without Alyssa Solomon as the opposite spiker was stuck at the sidelines.
In set 3, Nitura scored the last four points for the Lady Falcons to seal a crucial 2-1 advantage for Adamson, 28-26.
Others then stepped up for Adamson late in the fourth set as Frances Mordi was the one to provide the game-winning hit, giving the Lady Falcons their first win against NU since UAAP Season 81 in 2019.
With Nitura's latest scoring exploits, she added another cap to her record-setting rookie year, becoming the first player to score 30 or more four times in a single season in UAAP women’s volleyball.
Mordi and Mayang Nuique were the next leading scorers for Adamson, chipping in eight points each.
Bella Belen, for her part, recorded a double-double of 19 points and 21 excellent receptions in a losing effort for NU.
Adamson thus keeps its Final Four hopes alive at 4-7, while NU falls to 9-2 with three games remaining in the eliminations.
