There’s no telling what lies ahead, at least for the moment, for Ateneo veteran hitters Lyann De Guzman and AC Miner as they think over their future with the Blue Eagles after missing out on the Final Four in UAAP Season 87.

Officially wrapping up their campaign with a big win against UE on Saturday, De Guzman and Miner remained coy on whether or not they’ll return next year for their last year of eligibility for the Katipunan-based squad.

Among the pillars of the Blue Eagles in the last few years, the Ateneo community knows what it would mean to have both De Guzman and Miner return for their final year — especially as injury-hit players like Jlo Delos Santos, Sobe Buena, and Zel Tsunashima are expected to be back in action by then.

But even as the crowd showered De Guzman and Miner with cheers of “one more year," no promises were made.

“Actually, syempre, sobrang daming what ifs ngayong season na to. But yun nga, parang napapaisip ulit. Pero not yet decided,” De Guzman said of her and Miner’s plans.

Regardless of their decision, the two veteran hitters have a lot of good things to bring home from their fourth year with the Blue Eagles. Especially for De Guzman, it was a happy sight to see that fans have slowly but surely returned for Ateneo.

“Of course, sa Ateneo community, we’re very thankful and sobrang na-appreciate namin sila. Kasi yun nga, manalo man o matalo, nandiyan sila para supportahan kami,” said De Guzman.

“We’re very happy na makita na bumabalik pakonti konti yung sea of blue,” she added.

As for Miner, there was a little bit of regret when they were unable to give back to their fans in the form of wins. But at the end of the day, she drew much motivation from all their support.

“Very happy kami na people still continue supporting Ateneo when they give us flowers, they also watch our games and they cheer for us. We’re very thankful. Kahit di namin napapalitan ng wins, very thankful kami na may nagsu-support parin samin,” she said.

“Because of that, lalo kaming pumped maglaro for the community.”

As the season draws to a close for the Blue Eagles, time will now be the ultimate truth teller for De Guzman and Miner as they mull over the next steps in their career.

In their last game for Ateneo in Season 87, De Guzman and Miner combined for 26 points in the big win for the Blue Eagles. De Guzman, for her part, finished with a triple-double of 13 points, 18 excellent digs, and 17 excellent receptions.
