Alas Pilipinas Men are off to a fresh start when the first leg of the 2024 Southeast Asian V.League begins on Friday, August 16, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

The men's national team will be headed by veteran Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni, who took on the reigns last June after being recommended by the FIVB last year.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Ramon "Tats" Suzara stated that the tournament presents a valuable opportunity for the national team to demonstrate its skills against the top teams in Southeast Asia.

Additionally, it will serve as crucial preparation for the highly anticipated FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, which the Philippines will host next year.

“Playing against quality teams in Southeast Asia is a great test for our Philippine men’s team with new men’s coach Angiolino Frigoni,” said Suzara. “We are excited to see our team compete.”

Since the tournament’s inception last year, Alas Men has yet to win a game, but they will look to change that when they take on Vietnam on Friday at 6 p.m.

In last year’s tournament, the Vietnamese finished with a bronze in the first leg before settling for silver in the second leg, which was also hosted in the country.
