The La Salle-Zobel standout is part of the 18-man pool gearing up for SEABA.
Apart from making the final roster and winning, there’s one more goal in Kieffer Alas’ mind when the Gilas Pilipinas Boys’ team competes in the 2023 SEABA U16 championship.
That is to beat his older brother, NLEX Road Warriors star Kevin Alas.
Fresh from the NBA Academy Asia Development Camp in Singapore, the younger Alas was of course referring to the number of games played donning a national team jersey.
“It’s very inspiring because I want to play more games than him sa Gilas, sa seniors. I think he played one game lang. I want to up him, brotherly love 'yun,” he said.
The son of seasoned coach Louie Alas, he is bent on making the most of this opportunity after getting cut last year.
“I’m very happy because last year I got cut so I didn’t get the opportunity to play. Now I get the chance to play and represent the country,” he said before reporters via Smart Sports.
The 6-foot-2 La Salle-Zobel standout is part of an 18-man lineup from which coach Josh Reyes will choose the squad that will lock horns with Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia from July 17 to July 19. The top team will qualify for the FIBA U16 Asian Championship.
Alas, who is still trying to reach full strength coming off an injury, is confident his team will lord over the tournament set in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“Pang-World Cup ‘yung team po namin,” he said.
