Now that's how you make an announcement.
The Philippine women's football team is always on the lookout for more young talent, as the history-making squad hopes to continue to break the glass ceiling.
The Filipinas recently found one from Spain in the form of Alexia Jr., who was called up to join the national team's training camp from November 27 to December 6 in California.
The 23-year-old forward plays for CA Osasuna Femenino in the Primera Federacion, which is the second-tier women's league in Spain.
It's her first time to be called up by the Philippines, and on Thursday, she expressed how excited she is for the chance to play for the country. She cited one specific person that makes her latest milestone very special: Her mom.
"Behind this opportunity, there’s a story of courage of a woman who built an empire when it only had ruins, a story of resilience, and the authenticity that overflows in her life. With all the sacrifices and all the work, she never asked for anything in return. These are the values that she instilled in my brothers and I. She always said that your feet on the ground are the ones that will take you to the sky. And she was right," wrote Alexia Jr. on Instagram. "And that’s why, to this day, I am so strong because of you, mom."
She also included a photo of her tattoo featuring a football and the Philippine flag.
The talented forward concluded her post by saying that it's an honor to represent the Philippines, punctuating it with a Filipino phrase.
"Katatagan ng loob ng isang bata," said Alexia Jr.
The Fil-Spanish booter is the latest foreign recruit of the Filipinas, who have capitalized on the Filipino diaspora through the years. The model has worked, leading to the Philippines' first-ever stint in the FIFA World Cup this year, where the Filipinas also scored a historic victory.
