Fresh off their 2025 AVC Women's Champions League title victory, Zhetysu VC head coach Marko Grisic lays out ways on how Philippine volleyball clubs can further improve in international tournaments.
After steering Zhetysu VC to another golden finish, head coach Marko Grisic believes the Philippines has the potential to rise to the same level as powerhouse Kazakh clubs, given the right support and system improvements.
Grisic shared his thoughts after Zhetysu VC captured the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League title, overpowering Vietnam's VTV Binh Dien Long An, 25-14, 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, at the PhilSports Arena on Sunday, April 27.
The victory marked Kazakhstan's fifth AVC title overall, and the country's first since 2022.
"I think the Philippines has good potential to play in these kinds of competitions," Grisic said during the post-game press conference.
The key for Philippine clubs? According to Grisic, it’s by familiarizing themselves with imports and possibly even hiring foreign coaches to introduce new systems.
With continued exposure to international styles and the guidance of experienced talent, the multi-titled tactician is confident that Philippine volleyball can one day break through on the international stage.
"In the future, with foreign players and maybe foreign coaches—maybe that will be a good way to adapt to other systems and games,” said Grisic.
The Serbian mentor, who now has two AVC gold medals under his belt, also praised the passionate atmosphere in Manila and the energy shown by the Philippine teams during the tournament.
During their dominant run, Zhetysu faced the Creamline Cool Smashers in pool play and PLDT High Speed Hitters in the quarterfinals.
"I saw the big energy in Manila, especially when we played the Philippine teams. In the future, I would like to play more and more in Philippine competitions—that will definitely be good."

"Maybe, maybe. Why not?” he said.
