Even with his Olympic dream derailed, Pacquiao says he will continue to support the Filipino athletes seeing action in Paris.
Manny Pacquiao will not box in the Olympics, this after the International Olympic Committee said the eight-division boxing world champion cannot compete in the 2024 Paris Games due to his age.
The age limit for boxing in the Olympics is 40, and Manny turned 45 last December. The “Pacman” would have been eligible in the 2016 Rio Games if he chose to compete then.
“I respect the decision of the IOC regarding my request to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics,” Pacquiao said in a statement.
“While I am very saddened and disappointed, I understand and accept the age limit rules,” he added.
Even with his Olympic dream derailed, Pacquiao says he will continue to support the Filipino athletes seeing action in Paris.
EJ Obiena, Carlos Yulo, Aleah Finnegan, and Eumir Marcial currently have their spots secured.
“I will continue to support and cheer for the Filipino athletes who will represent our country in the Olympics. Make us proud,” Pacquiao said.
As for his boxing career, Pacquiao hinted at a possible development.
“I also promise to bring pride and honor to my country inside the boxing ring in the near future,” he said.
