The LG Sakers announced the acquisition of the former UAAP and B.League champion Wednesday, ahead of the 2024-25 KBL season.

Carl Tamayo was last seen playing for the Ryukyu Golden Kings in Japan’s B.League, where he was part of the 2023 team that win the B1 title.

He left the team in the middle of the 2024 season by mutual agreement with the Golden Kings. He averaged  3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in only 12.5 minutes per game.

In the UAAP, Tamayo helped the UP Fighting Maroons to the Season 84 title, the school’s first since 1986.

Tamayo joins an LG Sakers team that finished 36-18 in the previous season, earning the no. 2 seed in the playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost in the semifinals.

Changwon finished with the same record and same seeding in the 2022-23 season, but also lost in the semifinals.

Tamayo replaced Justin Gutang as the Asian Quota Player for LG.
