There’s changes on top of the Philippine women’s national football team.

In a statement released to the Philippine Football Press Corps, Jefferson Cheng is stepping away from his role as Filipinas team manager.

The move comes as his and the organization’s goals “do not align” and the relationship is no longer “workable.”

“For several months, we tried our best to make things work, under new and very different circumstances. Unfortunately, the situation is not workable,” Cheng said in his statement.

“Our priorities and goals do not align, and the PWNT organization that we worked hard to develop in the past years is incompatible with current methods,” he added.

With Cheng as team manager, the Filipinas rose through the ranks, with the crowning achievement coming last year when the Philippines made the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Filipinas then further made history by winning a game, beating host New Zealand, 1-0.

I want to thank all of you for the support and kindness that you have shown me,” Cheng said.

“It is through you that our efforts have not gone unnoticed and I am grateful to have shared some of the best football experiences with all of you.”
