The Philippine ice hockey teams bagged two bronze medals in the men’s and women’s division A competitions of the 2024 Union Ice Hockey Tournament in Al Ain, UAE over the weekend.

The men’s team squeaked past Okrylyonnye, 6-5, to take the podium finish on Saturday. The Filipinos avenged their earlier loss, finishing the tournament with an even 3-3 slate.

Meanwhile, the women’s team fared better with a 4-2 record in the tournament, including a 9-1 beating of the Ladakh Women in the last day of the competition to claim the bronze.

“The Philippines Eagles Women’s and Men’s teams conquered the ice under the desert sun, winning bronze at the 2024 Union Ice Hockey Tournament in Al Ain, UAE! Who says you can’t soar through the heat? Incredible teamwork and heart! Mabuhay, Eagles!” the federation wrote on social media.

The Philippine Eagles women’s team displayed dominant performances in the friendly competition including 8-1 and 9-0 wins over Shaheen Falcons and Icebox, respectively earlier on.

Earlier this year, the women’s team also won silver at the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s Asia and Oceania Championship Division 1 in Kyrgyzstan which marked their first plunge back into action since the pandemic.

The men’s team, for their part, retained their spot in the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Division 3B and finished 4th in the competition in just the team’s second appearance at Worlds.
