Two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao flexes top form in South Korea as he poured on 36 points in a victory for the Goyang Sono Skygunners.
Kevin Quiambao played his best game as a professional basketball player so far with a 36-point performance for the Goyang Sono SkyGunners in their 86-82 escape act against the Wonju DB Promy at the Goyang Gymnasium on Sunday.
After being sidelined by injury for most of last month, Quiambao finally broke out of his shell as he finished with a double-double, also having 12 rebounds and three assists in the big win for the otherwise struggling SkyGunners.
Quiambao, whose previous career-high was only 33 points in the UAAP, drilled six three pointers en route to the victory for Goyang.
Goyang did their damage early as they were ahead at the halftime break, 50-29.
Despite Wonju trying to play catch up in the second half, the lead proved insurmountable as Goyang held on for the victory.
Quiambao’s impact performance cast a shadow on KBL MVP Ethan Alvano’s 18 points, which backstopped Lee Gwan-Hee’s 29 points, three rebounds, and one assist.
This is Quiambao’s first win while he was on the floor since making his debut in January 12.
The SkyGunners snapped a four-game losing skid and improved to 11-24 for the season.
However, there is still lots of ground to make up as Goyang remain last in the 10-team KBL standings.
Meanwhile, Wonju have been free falling with their fourth straight defeat. They are on the cusp of falling out of the playoffs in the current rankings with a 16-20 slate.
