This is what dreams are truly made of.

In 2023, Alex Eala stood on stage at the Rafa Nadal Academy graduation, receiving her diploma alongside tennis icons Rafael Nadal and world No. 2 Iga Swiatek.

The then-18-year-old Filipina tennis star was all smiles as she posed with her idols, a moment younger Alex could have never imagined—not just meeting them, but years later, defeating one of them.

Fast forward to the 2025 Miami Open, and Eala pulled off the biggest win of her career, stunning world No. 2 Swiatek in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 7-5.

The 19-year-old wildcard, ranked No. 140 at the start of the tournament, has been on a dream run, taking down some of the sport’s biggest names.

After her quarterfinal win, she soared 65 spots up the live WTA rankings to No. 75, putting her on track to break into the Top 100 and securing a stronger path toward Grand Slam tournaments.

Eala couldn’t help but reflect on how far she’s come.

Recalling her graduation, she shared how she once looked up to Swiatek as an inspiration.

“She was a guest speaker and celebrity guest. I think every year the academy tries to invite a public figure to inspire the kids. I thought I was super lucky to have her during my graduation. She had just come off a Roland Garros win. But I remember walking up to her, and she was like, ‘Oh, I know you. I have seen you.’ I was like, ‘Yes’ (smiling),” she shared during the post-game interview.

Her Cinderella run isn’t over yet, as she gears up for an intense semifinal showdown against world No. 4 Jessica Pegula, a former world No. 3 and US Open finalist.

With momentum on her side and history within reach, Eala is proving that dreams aren’t just meant to be imagined—they’re meant to be lived.
