Canelo called out Messi for allegedly disrespecting the flag of Mexico. So we thought: what would a boxing match between the two athletes look like?
Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez publicly threatened Argentine football icon Lionel Messi recently for disrespecting the flag of Mexico. The incident apparently happened inside the locker room of Team Argentina after they’ve won a crucial match against Team Mexico at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Despite the apology Canelo issued a few days later, the whole thing got us thinking, “What would a boxing match between Alvarez and Messi look like?” Here’s how we imagined to be:
Sitting at ringside is social media sensation Jake Paul as the fight’s promoter.
The oddsmakers have Messi as a 31M to 1 underdog. The bell rings!
Canelo, fuming with rage, rushes in to go for the early KO. Messi to everyone’s surprise stands his ground and uncorks an overhead soccer kick that dazes the Mexican champion and eventually puts him down on one knee.
Snoop Dogg, the official commentator and analyst of the match announces it was a perfectly legal move. Apparently anything goes in this bout.
As Messi was facing the crowd celebrating on the top rope, Canelo got back up and was ready to unleash hell on his sneaky opponent. When poor ol’ Leo finally realized what was about to happen. He came to his senses and ran out of the ring as if he was speeding through the length of a football field to score a World Cup-clinching goal.
In the end, Canelo was declared winner via DQ but was still madly frustrated that he didn’t even get to lay a finger on his new nemesis.
Jake Paul immediately makes arrangements for Canelo-Messi II.
