Legend recognizes legend. There are now two Olympic gold medalists for the Philippines: Hidilyn Diaz and Carlos Yulo.
History maker celebrates history maker.
Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz congratulated gymnast Carlos Yulo for delivering the Philippines' first gold medal of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
This is just the Philippines' second-ever Olympic gold medal.
"Dalawang ginto na tayo," Diaz posted on Instagram.
"Congratulations, Caloy," she added.
Diaz broke down in tears when the weightlifter realized she had won the country's first-ever gold medal in Tokyo.
Yulo acted the same way after his 15.000 performance in the floor exercise finals of Paris 2024.
Diaz couldn't help but notice the similarities.
Caloy also makes history as the first male Philippine athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, and the first to do so in gymnastics.
"Congratulations!
Yulo will have another shot at the medal during the vault finals on August 4.
