As her Olympic Games journey comes to a close, Fil-Ivorian fencer Maxine Esteban reflects on a deeply emotional chapter that will forever be a core memory in her life.

This Olympic experience, filled with intense training, countless sacrifices, and unyielding dedication, represents more than just a competition—it symbolizes the culmination of her lifelong dream and a testament to her relentless spirit.

“My first Olympics! 🥹 Blessed and grateful. ??🙏🏻,” she wrote on Instagram.

Despite a challenging defeat to hometown favorite Pauline Ranvier of France with a score of 15-7, she approached every match with steadfast grace and resolve.

Maxine Esteban remains confident that setbacks are inevitable but that comebacks can be even more remarkable.

“Someday, when I need to reach for a core memory to help me through hard times, I will remember Paris 2024 to reassure myself that doors can close, but windows will open,” Maxine said.

“Setbacks can happen, but the comeback can be better. In every game, we may lose, but strength lies in knowing we are not defeated. In life, we may be beaten, but never broken,” she added.

Following the Olympics, the 23-year-old fencer will take a hiatus before gearing up for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
