President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will be honoring two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and the rest of Team Philippines by Tuesday.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and the rest of Team Philippines at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be given a heroes' parade and a reception at the Malacañang, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on Friday.
The parade and reception will be held on Tuesday, August 13, when the Olympians will come home.
Team Philippines will be met by their families at the Villamor Airbase.
The Olympians will proceed to the Philippine International Convention Center, where they will be welcomed by government officials.
A heroes' parade will then be held in key parts of Manila, ending at the Malacañan Palace.
There, a special program will be held to honor the athletes. They would also be presented with incentives.
There are 22 athletes who competed for the Philippines in Paris 2024.
Gymnast Carlos Yulo became the Philippines' first-ever two-time gold medalist at a single Olympic Games--winning in the floor exercise and vault events of artistic gymnastics.
Boxer Nesthy Petecio also became a two-time medalist, winning bronze in the women's 57kg division of Paris 2024 after securing silver in Tokyo 2020.
First timer Aira Villegas will also take home bronze in the women's 50kg division.
Republic Act No. 10699, also known as the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, Yulo will receive ten million pesos as cash incentive.
Petecio and Villegas will take home two million pesos each.
National athletes and coaches also have benefits and privileges.
These include a 20% discount from establishments relative to the utilization of transportation services, hotels and other lodging establishments, restaurants and recreation centers and purchase of medicine and sports equipment anywhere in the country for the actual and exclusive use or enjoyment of the national athlete and coach.
They also have a 20% discount on admission fees in theaters, cinemas, and other similar places of leisure and enjoyment.
They have free medical and dental consultations in government hospitals, coverage in the National Health Insurance Program of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHILHEALTH).
National athletes also have priority in housing programs and the use of living quarters maintained by the Philippine Sports Commission. They also have full scholarship benefits in state colleges and universities.
