Filipina para archer Agustina Bantiloc began her campaign in the women's individual compound open ranking round at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024, finishing in 28th place on Thursday, August 29 (Philippine time).

Making her Paralympics debut at 55 years old, Bantiloc delivered her season-best performance, accumulating a total score of 618 points.

Her performance included several strong ends, particularly in the first half where she achieved a high of 58 points in the fourth end.

Despite facing challenges in the second half, where her best end was 54 points, she maintained focus and composure to complete the round.

The ranking round sets the seedings for both individual and team competitions. During this round, archers fire 72 arrows at a target 70 meters away, divided into 12 ends (sets) of six arrows each.

The highest possible score is 720, with each archer having two minutes to shoot all six arrows at each end.

At the top of the rankings, Turkey's Oznur Cure Girdi secured the first position with a world-record-breaking score of 704, followed closely by India's Sheetal Devi, who posted a personal best of 703. Iran's Fatemeh Hemmati rounded out the top three with a score of 696, also a personal best.

Although she placed last among the 28 competitors, Bantiloc can still improve her performance in the next stage of the competition in her quest for a medal finish in Paris 2024.

The para archery women's 1/16 elimination round at the Paris 2024 Paralympics will continue on August 30.
