Para archer Agustina Maximo Bantiloc ended her Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in a valiant effort against Brazil's Jane Karla Gogel, falling short with the score 143-127 in the 1/16 Elimination Round of the Women's Individual Compound Open on Friday, August 30 (Philippine time).

The competition began on an even footing. Bantiloc, who finished 28th in the ranking round, staying close to Gögel in the first few rounds.

Gögel scored a perfect 29 in the first round, while Bantiloc trailed with a solid 25.

As the rounds progressed, Bantiloc showed resilience, improving her score to 28 in the second round, narrowing the gap slightly.

However, as the match advanced, Gögel’s consistency became evident. She maintained her high level of performance with back-to-back scores of 29, while Bantiloc began to struggle, scoring 24 in the third round and 27 in the fourth.

The final round proved the most challenging for Bantiloc, who scored 23, while Gögel secured her win with a 27.

Despite her early exit, Bantiloc showed she could compete against the world’s best as she marked her Paralympics debut at 55 years old. She was also one of the flagbearers for the Philippines in the quadriennial event.
