If the TNT Tropang Giga are going to win the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup finals, they might have to do it without one of their main men in RR Pogoy.
Pogoy, according to PBA courtside reporter Denise Tan, fractured his right pinkie in Game 3 on Friday in a play that also involved Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Christian Standhardinger. The former FEU Tamaraw, though, was able to stay in the game largely due to his adrenaline numbing the pain.
Medical checkups afterward revealed the extent of the fracture, which evidently is severe enough to keep the sweet-shooting guard out of Game 4—and potentially the rest of the championship series. The injury, also according to Tan, might need surgery, with two doctors already recommending it. But, at the moment, it appears Pogoy and TNT are taking a wait-and-see approach.
Through Game 2 of the finals, Pogoy has been averaging 18.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 34 minutes of playing time for the Tropang Giga. He is the team’s starting shooting guard and leading scorer.
