Gray had previously tore his ACL on his left knee.
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel rising star Jeremiah Gray suffered what appears to be a severe leg injury in Ginebra’s 91-85 win over the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA On Tour.
Gray injured his knee with 22 seconds left in the third canto while attempting a Euro-step on a one-on-one fastbreak he himself initiated with a steal. The 26-year-old Fil-Am’s right knee buckled and turned inward as he tried to sidestep away from the defense. Gray immediately crumpled to the floor, his screams of pain piercing the entire Ynares Arena in Pasig.
“Parang number 7 na nasa kabila ang hitsura ng tuhod ni Jeremiah Gray,” recounted the broadcast’s courtside reporter. “Hindi na makahinga si Miah sa sobrang takot at pain. Nahirapan sila [medical team] na ilagay si Miah sa stretcher dahil hindi nila maangat since konting movement lang nanginginig na si Miah [sa sakit].”
The second overall pick of the 2022 PBA Draft was ultimately placed on the stretcher and stretchered off the court as practically everyone in the arena looked on in disbelief.
Gray previously tore his left ACL while playing for the TNT Tropang Giga in the PBA 3x3 and only returned to action in October last year. He has since shown flashes of brilliance and is actually being groomed as one of Ginebra’s main men, according to court general LA Tenorio, who was in attendance.
Now, it appears Gray will be sidelined for a considerable amount of time—along with an uphill climb to recovery—given the gruesome nature of his latest injury.
