The "rebounding demon" did more than just dominate the boards.
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters coach Yeng Guiaopointed out earlier in the conference that his team needed more rebounding after dropping its first four games.
Enter the rebounding demon Demetrius Treadwell, who was brought in to jumpstart what had been a mediocre campaign for the Elasto Painters.
The move seems to be paying off handsomely for Guiao and company, as Rain or Shine is 3-1 with Treadwell and riding on the crest of what is now a three-game winning streak after beating the Magnolia Hotshots, 113-110, on Saturday at Cagayan de Oro.
And leading the way for Rain or Shine was, yes, Treadwell, who showed he could do more than just dominate the boards with a near-triple double of 30 points, 16 rebounds, and nine assists in what is easily his best game in the PBA.
The Akron alum also shot a hyper-efficient 10-for-14 from the field in giving Rain or Shine a steady fulcrum on offense—scoring when needed and making plays for his teammates all game long.
With Treadwell giving the vaunted Magnolia defense fits, the rest of the Elasto Painters found a groove offensively, with Andrei Caracut, Keith Datu, and Leonard Santillan chipping in 15, 14, and 11 markers, respectively. The three, incidentally, hit the marginal baskets in the fourth quarter to help Rain or Shine snap the Hotshots’ 18-game winning streak dating back to the PBA On Tour.
But, perhaps fittingly, it was an offensive rebound from Treadwell with under 15 seconds remaining that helped seal the victory for the Elasto Painters, who moved up to 3-5 in the standings. Magnolia, meanwhile, dropped to 7-1.
